OUR MENOPAUSE TREATMENT PROGRAMME

We primarily prescribe bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and are able to prescribe treatments that may not be available on the NHS, including testosterone.

At Oracle Clinics, our treatment plan is an end to end service from initial consultation to delivery of your medication and regular follow up appointments.

If the standard doses of hormone replacement are not working for you, we can provide a prescription for off licence, personalised preparations of HRT – made by specialist compounding pharmacies.

BIOIDENTICAL HRT PREPARATIONS

There are several different ways you can take HRT and we will work with you to find the preparation that suits you best.

  • Sprays: These are sprayed directly onto the skin and are then absorbed through the skin.
  • Gels: Similar to sprays, these are applied topically to the skin.
  • Tablets: These are taken every day, or sometimes on certain days within a cycle.
  • Patches: These are applied to the skin and usually changed every 24 hours. They deliver the required dose over this time.

WHAT ARE BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES?

Bioidentical hormones are plant based substances, made from Soya and Yams. They have identical chemical and molecular structures to naturally occurring human hormones which means they fit the hormone receptor sites perfectly. This means their messages are passed properly and their effects are more consistent with the normal biochemistry within the body. Bioidentical hormones are not recognised as foreign within the body so there are less side effects and they are safer than older, conventional HRTs.

Compounded HRT is a way of personalising HRT to a person’s specific requirements and symptoms. This is especially useful for women who have struggled with side effects of HRT in the past. It is called compounded BHRT as it is produced by compounding pharmacies to individual prescriptions.

They use the same hormones as bioidentical HRT but are compounded to a specific dose for the patient’s requirements under strict regulation by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). These preparations are unlicensed and we advocate trial of standard BHRT before using this treatment option.

Body identical HRT is a term used to commonly describe HRT used in the NHS. These are bioidentical hormones, but they are in set dose preparations. These medications are licensed in the UK. On this website, both compounded HRT and body identical HRT are referred to as bioidentical HRT.
